Silly and Sassy Girls | The Laughner Family | Indianapolis Family Photographer

One of the greatest honors, in my opinion, is to be asked by another photographer to photograph their family.  Another great honor is to be asked by a friend.  The Laughner's lived across the street from us for 8 years and I learned after starting my business that Jeremiah used to be a professional photographer. He shot more run-way models and weddings then families like me, but some awesome stuff.  I was so excited (and honored) when he asked me to photograph their family last fall as an anniversary gift for his wife, Jodi.

It has been so fun watching their family grow through the years.  Their oldest daughter, Addison, is a chatterbox.  Anytime we were coming home or were in the front yard, she was asking what we were doing or where we were going.  She's so silly.  And their other daughter, Amelia, is a sweetie but she has a little sass as well.  My boys always liked "impressing the girls" and getting them to laugh when they stopped by.

The Laughner's moved to Brownsburg in January and I know they are enjoying it there.   I miss seeing them across the street but we stay in touch through social media and hope we can get together in the future.

Sweet Girls | The Beyer Family | Indianapolis Family Photographer

I am always so honored when friends ask me to photograph their families, and the Beyer's are no exception.  I've known Andrew and Erin for about 10 years now.  Andrew and my husband , Tony, were classmates and friends growing up in grade school. When my husband and I first started dating, they were one of the first friends that Tony introduced me to. We went over to their house (which was reassuring that the guy I was dating actually had some married friends and not just all singleton friends that wanted to party all of the time) to watch a Colt's playoff game.  I remember walking into their house and for some reason Tony introduced me to Andrew as "Kari" or "Katie" - I can't remember exactly but I know it was some "K" name not my own (yes, really!!)  Andrew looked at me and said "Kelly, right?"  Maybe Tony was nervous that he was actually bringing a girl to a friend event or totally just had a brain freeze - either way, Andrew and Erin made me feel comfortable from the first time meeting them and they have been great friends ever since.

Our oldest kids share a birthday (different years) and they are the Godparents to our eldest Louis.  We have watched each other's families grow and have shared in happy times and sad times.  We missed them a ton when they spent 5 years (I think that number is correct) in Michigan for Erin's work.  We did visit them once on a very very very cold weekend in January and they made the drive back to Indy several times since both are from here. We were elated when they moved back to Indy and into a house that is only 10 minutes away from us.  We have vacationed together, celebrated numerous kid birthdays - there have been pool parties (thanks to Erin's parents), play dates, Indy 500's, dinners, Colts games, and on and on.  Having friends that are sharing in the same walk of life that you are is an amazing feeling.  Tony and I are so grateful for their friendship.

Andrew and Erin celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary this past October. Their lives are now full with girliness with 5 year old Katelyn and 9 month old Caroline.  Apparently Katelyn and my son Louis are going to get married someday and we'll then be related. (:

We had a blast at our session.  Miss Caroline was a bit upset at first but she warmed up.  Katelyn was a perfect model just as I knew she would be.  (:  And Andrew and Erin, you were pretty awesome too (:  I can't leave you out. (:

So this last photo I have to share because it was taken literally seconds before Katelyn took a tumble off the bridge and into the marsh.  Whoops.....I tried to catch her but........well.......didn't happen.  She was fine - just a little wet and distraught.  And that was a wrap!

Thanks so much to the Beyer's for a wonderful evening and even more for the wonderful friendship.  (:

Springy Session | The McCahill Family | Indianapolis Family Photographer

This session screams spring, doesn't it??  Light pastel colors, green backgrounds, beautiful light - and for the most part it was springy - except for the temperature which was in the 50's that evening.  But the McCahill family was determined to make it a spring session and despite the unseasonable temperature, they rocked it!  Little Molly was amazing throughout the session wanting to be in almost every shot and smiling away and baby Ryan was a happy happy boy.  I could not have asked for a better session in those conditions.

I do have to give a huge thanks to Kim and Colin for allowing me to take some family photos.  I used to work with Kim at PwC a LONG time ago and I don't think we had seen each other since a wedding of a mutual friend back in 2009.  Both of our lives had changed SO much since then, the biggest being adding children into our lives.  It was so great to catch up and hopefully it won't be another seven years before doing it again!

A Boy and his Puppy | The Hauser Family | Indianapolis Family Photographer

This was my first family session with an actual pet.  The Hauser's brought their golden retriever Daisy to join in the photo fun.  Daisy was great for the photos but unfortunately another puppy stole the show.  3 year-old George insisted that his stuffed puppy Pete be part of the family photos and as you can see below, he's in at least 80% of the photos.  That's alright though - my sessions are all about capturing that moment in time - and according to mom, Pete is part of the family (and in many other photos throughout George's life).  So meet George and Pete:

I met the Hauser's through a mutual friend and I can't thank Jenny (mom) enough as she has already referred me out a couple times.  They are well on their way to a free (or deeply discounted) session next year with a few more referrals.  (:  Contact me to learn about my referral program.

Anyway, Doug (dad) and Jenny have been married for 6 years and little George is the light of their lives.  (Don't worry, Daisy, you are a close second).  And I can see why - George is such a playful, fun (and don't forget adorable!!) little guy.  Seriously, by the end of the session, I was ready to take him home with me and make him my permanent assistant (and that is saying ALOT because I already have two rambunctious boys at home).

Okay - to the session:

Our session was held on a cloudy evening late in October and we were losing light quickly towards the end.  Last minute we decided to get the bubbles and the wagon out and I'm so glad we did - some of my favorites from the session:
